Emerging Writers Fund

Resourcing Early Career Writers

Applications open in June

At a moment when intellectual life is increasingly constrained by institutional pressures and devastatingly narrowing forms of discourse, the PSSSR Emerging Writers Fund supports new voices: voices that we believe are capable of breaking free of these limits and contributing to critical discourse.

With development support from PSSSR Founder and Director Catherine Liu and Editorial Director Tara Heffernan, The Emerging Writers Fund operates through two channels: the Emerging Writers Fund Fellowship and the Micro-Grants Program.

The Emerging Writers Fund Fellow will receive a $5,000 stipend to support research, fieldwork, and other needs. For the duration of the program, they will also have the support of the PSSSR team who will provide intensive development support and editorial advice to help them produce a substantial piece of critical or research-driven writing. The Fellow will also be invited to attend our inaugural retreat, Retreat of the Left: Rebuilding the Political Subject, in Twentynine Palms in December 2026.

The Micro-Grants program offers $2,000 grants to early-career writers undertaking exploratory or research-driven projects that may not yet fit conventional academic or publishing frameworks, alongside editorial support and guidance from the PSSSR team.

Both programs have the potential for publishing outcomes, and sustained involvement with PSSSR’s future initiatives and events.

Applications for our Emerging Writers Fund will open soon. Please join our mailing list to be kept up to date on the Emerging Writers Fund.
