PSSSR Annual Retreat

The Retreat of the Left

PSSSR Inaugural Retreat, December 2026

The left is in retreat. Not in defeat — but without a plan, without a common language, without a room in which to think.

In December 2026 we will hold our inaugural PSSSR Retreat at the Campbell House Inn in Twentynine Palms, just outside Joshua Tree National Park in California.

We are building the new political subject. We'd like you in the room.

Our retreats are educational and discursive, but will provide respite from the pressures and anxieties of everyday life in order to learn from each other.

We will hear from founder and director, Catherine Liu, and other invited presenters.

One of the PSSSR’s guiding convictions is the belief that intellectual life and work should not be limited to those who have access to elite institutions and the credentials they offer. PSSSR grants, retreats and fellowships will encourage applications from those with working-class or otherwise marginalized backgrounds, including those facing barriers related to disability, caring responsibilities, precarious or informal employment, and those without formal university credentials.

Grants, retreats and fellowships require generous donor support: we do not want to exclude anyone who would otherwise be unable to join expensive retreats that exclude the majority of working and middle-class people.

Join our mailing list as additional information, including application procedures, will be available shortly.
